Wisconsin Deaths at Shiloh, Tennessee

The 14th, 16th and 18th Wisconsin Civil War Regiments were engaged at the Battle of Shiloh, Tennessee. Included are the list of causalities for these Regiments. The 14th Regiment was organized at Fond du Lac, Wisconsin in January, 1862. The regiment left Fond du Lac on March 8, 1862 under Colonel David Wood. After a brief stay in Savannah, Tennessee they were engaged in The Battle of Shiloh, 16 were KIA and another 13 died of wounds.

The 16th Regiment was ordered to Camp Randall, Wisconsin in November 1861. Benjamin Allen was the Colonel and the regiment was mustered in on January 31, 1862. They took a train from Camp Randall to St. Louis, Missouri and arrived in Savannah, Tennessee on March 20, 1862. They engaged in the battle of Shiloh were they fought on the front lines, 43 were KIA and 39 died of wounds. The 18th Regiment was organized in Milwaukee in the winter of 1851, 1862. They reported to St. Louis, Missouri on March 30, 1862. They reached Savannah, Tennessee on April 5, 1862. The regiment was not prepared for battle and were surrounded by the confederate soldiers. They had all lost all of their field officers. In this bloody battle the regiment lost 24 soldiers who were either KIA or died of wounds.

The above number of causalities does not include those who were taken prisoner and died in the Southern prisons of disease of wounds.
